Leal “Leo” Sundet was elected Coast Committeeman in September 2006.
Sundet has been a registered longshoreman for 21 years. Starting as a “B” man in Newport, Oregon Local 53, he was soon elected to serve as the local’s Secretary-Treasurer. He also served as Secretary and then Chairman of the Area Labor Relations Committee (LRC).
After transferring to Local 8 in Portland, Sundet continued as Area Chairman and served multiple terms as LRC/Relief Business Agent. He served two terms as President of Local 8, ending in 2006.
At the time of his election to the Coast Committeeman office, Sundet was a member of the Oregon/Columbia River District Council and had long been active in local politics. He was also an Executive Board member of the Oregon AFL-CIO and served as a member of the Area Maritime Security Committee.
In addition to his other positions, Sundet has served on the Coast Technology Committee, the Coast Port Security Committee, the Coast M&R Committee, and the Coast Jurisdiction Commitee.
Sundet is 53 years old. He and his wife, Genevieve, have one son and three grandchildren.
