
Joseph Radisich, International Vice President, Mainland.
In September 2006, Joseph R. Radisich was elected as International Vice President, Mainland, of the ILWU.
Radisich joined the ILWU in 1985 and has served as a delegate to several caucuses and conventions and on his Local’s executive board and political action committee. Radisich has also served as Longshore Local 13 Vice President (2001-2002) and as its Business Agent (1995-1996). During the 2002 coastwise contract negotiations, Radisich was particularly instrumental in helping achieve a successful outcome for the ILWU. Radisich sits as Local 13's executive board representative on the Los Angeles County Federation of Labor and is a Vice President of the Federation.
Radisich was one of several members who played key roles in the creation of Local 13's political action committee (PAC). In 2003, he was elected as President of the Southern California District Council, one of four ILWU regional councils empowered to bring together locals to coordinate political and organizing work. In 2005, Radisich led a delegation of District Council members to Sacramento for lobbying on infrastructure and other port issues.
Radisich comes to his leadership position at the union after earning confirmation by the Los Angeles City Council to sit on its Board of Harbor Commissioners in September 2005. He is the third ILWU member to serve on the port commission.
Radisich graduated from the University of California, Los Angeles in 1991 with a degree in history. He is also a graduate of Mary Star of the Sea High School in San Pedro, CA.
