On Sunday, January 31st, Borax/Rio Tinto locked-out nearly 600 of our members in an attempt to force workers to accept a concessionary contract that would destroy their union. Our members are united in their opposition to the company’s attempt to gut the contract. However, US Borax is part of Rio Tinto, the 2nd largest mining company in the world with vast resources, so Local 30 members will need our support to win.
The International, together with the LA County Federation of Labor Community Services Program, is raising money to help Local 30 workers and their families through these difficult times. Please donate generously. Tax deductible contributions can be made by writing out a check to “Labor Community Services” with the notation “Boron Lockout” in the memo portion of the check and sent to Labor Community Services, 2130 W. James M. Wood Blvd., Los Angeles, CA 90006. Your support will be greatly appreciated.
Alternatively, if you belong to one of the credit unions listed below you can make ongoing., weekly contributions by completing the appropriate authorization form. A link to download the form is next to the credit union name. The completed forms should be sent to the Local 30 Support c/o ILWU, 1188 Franklin Street 4th Floor, San Francisco, Ca 94109 or may be faxed to 415.775.1302 or emailed to local30support@ilwu.org.
