Longshore Opportunity

September 16, 2004

In order to be considered for potential status as an “Identified Casual” longshore worker in the Ports of Los Angeles/Long Beach, send any standard postcard no larger than 4 by 6 inches, available at any stationery store or post office, via first-class U.S. mail to:

Joint Port Labor Relations Committee—LA/LB
Attn: 2004 Casual Process
P.O. Box 350
Long Beach, CA 90801.

Include your full name (first, middle, last), mailing address, and telephone number with area code. Your card must be post-marked no later than August 13, 2004. Do not send a résumé or any other information or document. No drop-offs or personal delivery will be accepted. Only one card per person. Anyone submitting more than one card will be disqualified from potential longshore employment. A random drawing will be held on or about August 19. A list of those selected for processing will be posted for thirty days, including on ILWU.ORG and PMANET.ORG. If offered processing, you must be at least 18 years of age, have a valid drivers’ license with photograph, and be eligible to work in the U.S. Those selected for processing will be advised of additional requirements. Submitting a card does not guarantee processing or employment in the longshore industry. The procedures by which longshore employment may be offered can be changed, at any time and without notice, at the discretion of the joint parties to the governing collective bargaining agreement. No phone calls, please. PMA member companies are Equal Employment Opportunity Employers. Women and minorities are encouraged to apply.

Please be advised that the duplication, sale or trade for value of an Interest Card is strictly prohibited and any violation of this rule will result in disqualification of the applicant as well as discipline and punishment of the seller or trader; up to and including possible deregistration or termination of longshore employment and dispatch privileges. Please also note that there is no fee or charge for applying and no money should be paid to any person or organization related to this free program.
