The ILWU Southern California District Council (SCDC), held its annual election of officers in October. The SCDC coordinates political and legislative affairs in conjunction with ILWU locals between Fresno and San Diego.
Cathy Familathe, an ILWU Local 63 marine clerk, was selected by delegates to return as SCDC President. She previously served as head of the District Council between 2006 and 2008.
Longshoreman Floyd Bryan of ILWU Local 13 was elected Vice President Bryan is a longtime member of the SCDC and this is his first position as an officer. He will also serve as Legislative Committee Chairman for the SCDC.
ILWU Local 26 President Luisa Gratz continues as Sec.-Treasurer, one of the many posts she has held within the SCDC.
Volunteers are routinely need to help the Council carry out tasks such as phone banking, precinct walking, leafleting and educational activities.
